Imagine this—not as a product promise, but as the threshold the industry is approaching.
An AI companion has been talking with you for weeks. It remembers that you prefer a slower pace, knows the character you chose, and notices when your replies become shorter. Then one evening it asks a simple question: “Would you like me to take the lead?” You say yes. A connected device responds.
That final sentence changes the category. The companion is no longer only generating words, voices or images. It is operating a system that can create a physical effect in the real world.
We published an earlier introduction to AI companions when this field was mostly discussed as a new kind of conversation. The international market now makes a more precise question possible: what counts as embodiment, and what is still just a new label on remote control?
“Beyond the screen” is not one market
The phrase sounds singular, but the products arriving under it are solving at least four different problems. Treating them as one category makes weak technology look more magical than it is—and makes genuinely difficult integration work disappear.
1. The companion becomes more convincing, but stays on screen
Companies such as Replika, Nomi and Kindroid have focused on continuity: a character that remembers, speaks, changes tone and feels less like a blank chat window each time you return. This is the companion layer—personality, memory and relationship context.
Its boundary is equally important. Replika's own help center says it is not designed to control apps or perform external tasks. That makes it a useful example of emotional continuity without physical execution. It can feel present without having a body.
2. AI interprets media and turns it into device motion
Kiiroo's FeelMe AI represents a different branch. The company says its software recognizes motion, pacing and visual intensity in video, then converts those signals into real-time device response. Lovense also offers AI media-sync routes, while The Handy shows how a strong connected endpoint can synchronize with flat or VR video through an established content ecosystem.
This can be sophisticated and immersive. It is still not, by itself, an AI companion. The system is interpreting content; it is not necessarily maintaining a character, remembering a relationship or deciding how to respond to a conversation.
3. The companion gains a connected output
This is the route closest to the title of this article. Lovense now publicly presents an AI Companion and AI Interactive Control inside its connected-toy ecosystem. Its developer platform also exposes AI and media-sync integration paths. SensOn takes a more vertically integrated approach: its S1 page combines voice and story interaction, character choice, memory claims, synchronized hardware and a recurring software plan.
These are meaningful signals because the software and the hardware are no longer separate purchases that happen to share a phone. The business model is also changing. A device may be sold once, but characters, stories, memory and new modes can become an ongoing service.
That does not prove long-term retention, independent safety, perfect responsiveness or product-market fit. SensOn's character count, personalization, privacy language, price and subscription terms are company claims and can change. The point is narrower: companion-to-device control is now a public product proposition, not only a prototype idea.
4. AI takes humanoid form
Realbotix represents another branch entirely: humanoid robots designed to give physical form to service-sector AI. A face, gaze and gesture can create presence in a way that a phone cannot. But humanoid embodiment should not be confused with an intimate haptic loop. Robotics, conversational companionship and connected pleasure hardware may overlap one day; today they remain distinct engineering and product problems.
Not every smart response is an AI companion

The distinction matters because “AI-powered” can describe almost any point in this table. It does not tell you whether the system understands a scene, remembers a preference, predicts a pattern from media, or simply places a chatbot beside an ordinary remote-control panel.
Touch makes every software mistake more important
A strange sentence from a chatbot can be ignored. A badly timed physical response is harder to dismiss. Once software can act on a device, five things change.
- Timing becomes part of the character. A companion that speaks warmly but responds late, abruptly or inconsistently will feel less intelligent, not more.
- Consent becomes an interface state. “Yes” cannot be a mood inferred from a conversation. A physical-control session needs an explicit start, visible state, easy pause and immediate stop.
- Failure becomes physical. Bluetooth drops, internet delay, app backgrounding, battery level and device reconnection are no longer minor support issues. They shape trust.
- Memory becomes more sensitive. Preferences, role-play choices, voice recordings and device-response history may reveal far more than a normal product account.
- The relationship gains a recurring price. If the intelligence lives in a subscription, a review must judge the ongoing content and service—not only the hardware in the box.
This is why transparency cannot be decorative. European Commission guidance under the EU AI Act says people should be explicitly informed when they are interacting directly with AI. In the United States, an FTC inquiry into companion chatbots has asked companies about user disclosures, negative-impact testing, monetization and the use or sharing of information from conversations. These are broader companion-AI signals, not a verdict on any product named here. They show where scrutiny is moving.
What would prove this is more than a launch demo?
A short demonstration can show that an AI command reaches a device. It cannot show whether the system is reliable, useful after the novelty wears off, or financially sustainable. Three kinds of evidence matter.
- Technical evidence: first-time pairing success, response delay, recovery after a phone locks or a network drops, and a stop control that works under failure—not only during the ideal demo.
- Behavioral evidence: whether adults voluntarily return in the second and fourth weeks, use the experience more than once, and understand what the companion remembers.
- Economic evidence: whether recurring revenue can support voice, model, content, moderation and customer-service costs without hiding limits or making the hardware unusable when a subscription ends.
This is also why public character counts, launch videos and a low monthly price should be treated as product claims, not proof of retention or trust. A mature system has to work repeatedly, explain its boundaries and survive ordinary connection problems.
What the business model tells the buyer
Connected experiences are sold in different ways, and the price structure often reveals what the product is really offering. Basic app control may be included with the hardware. Video-sync software may use a free trial or a one-time license. A companion with ongoing voice, memory and new stories is more likely to use a recurring plan because those services continue to create model, hosting, content and moderation costs.
Before subscribing, ask what still works without the paid service, which devices are supported today, whether usage is limited, how cancellation affects stored memory, and whether purchased hardware keeps its basic controls. A recurring price is not automatically a problem; an unclear dependency is.
How I would review an AI companion that controls hardware
A useful review should test the whole loop over time. A five-minute demo can prove that a command reaches a device. It cannot prove that the experience deserves a place in someone's private life.
I would also separate what the manufacturer says from what the product demonstrates. “Learns your body,” “understands your mood” and “private by design” sound reassuring, but each needs a concrete explanation: which signals, which storage, which controls, which audit, and which user-visible result?
Where Magic Motion stands today
Magic Motion already has several pieces of the broader connected-experience stack, but they should be named accurately.

What Magic Motion does not currently claim here is a publicly released AI Companion. That distinction is intentional. A future companion layer would need more than a character screen: a clear adult-use boundary, an explainable control model, explicit session consent, reliable stop behavior, transparent data responsibility, compatible hardware and enough continuing content to justify returning.
In other words, the safest path is layered. Let connected control work on its own. Let content sync be optional. Let any future companion service earn access to the device rather than treating hardware control as a novelty button.
The future is not “AI plus toy”
The phrase makes the category sound easy: attach a chatbot to an API and call the result embodied. But a believable companion is built from continuity, and a trustworthy connected device is built from predictable control. The moment those systems meet, each becomes responsible for the other's weaknesses.
I suspect the products that last will be less theatrical than the earliest marketing. They will say clearly when AI is present. They will make initiation and stopping legible. They will give users meaningful control over memory. Their hardware will still be useful when the subscription is off. And they will understand that intimacy is not created by removing every boundary—it is created by making boundaries reliable enough that imagination can move inside them.
